Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) has teamed up with the Center for Constitutional Rights for a PSA titled "Don't Tread on Me" that addresses the NYPD's stop and frisk policy, which targets people of color at a disproportionate rate (out of 5 million stops — which about 4.4 million did not result in an arrest, according to statistics by the New York Civil Liberties Union — 85% of those questioned by law enforcement were Black or Latino). A federal court case, which just heard closing arguments a few days ago after a nine week trial in Manhattan, revealed that the NYPD set quotas for arrests.
