1. AUDIO: Styles of Beyond Return to Give a Long Overdue “Damn.”

Somewhat unfairly overlooked in most discussions regarding Los Angeles hip-hop, Styles of Beyond resurface after a 3+ years long limbo with a long overdue taste from their delayed Reseda Beach album. Was it worth the wait? Yes and no. The track gets us from the start and then… well…

Lets just say the drums and piano loop are tight. Emcee Ryu’s lyrics? Tight. But then all this is undermined by the hook via Grammy award winner Michael Bublé, which leans a little too heavily on the Bruno Mars tip for our tastes. Allegedly, the final retail version will be Bublé-less, so this will have to do for now. But fuhgget . We’ll forgive purely on the production strength of any dude who names himself after the Dodgers’ longtime play-by-play announcer Vin Scully (and who makes tracks like THIS ONE ). Yeah son, youse is aight with us. The LP is scheduled to drop October 23rd.
