In advance of their appearance at the New Museum in downtown NYC, Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Garcia did a one-off “pop up” show last night of their famed ’90s radio program – widely heralded as the G.O.A.T. of hip-hop broadcasts. Same station (WKCR 89.9FM), same time slot (Thursday night/Friday morning 1am-5am) and lots of of classic in-studio moments from the program revisited (e.g. pre-Illmatic Nas, ODB, Wu-Tang, Big L, Organized Konfusion, Kurious, Masta Ace, Boot Camp and more) made it a pretty special trip down memory lane. The focus was largely on 1993 – the year both Stretch and Bob consider the apex of hip-hop that decade, and also the theme of tonight’s New Museum discussion hosted by ego trip’s Sacha Jenkins. For those who couldn’t stay up to catch it, Nasty Vaz of radiolily.com’s “Down By Law” show has come through like a trooper with audio of the full four hours. Listen and download below.
