In advance of their appearance at the New Museum in downtown NYC, Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Garcia did a one-off “pop up” show last night of their famed ’90s radio program – widely heralded as the G.O.A.T. of hip-hop broadcasts. Same station (WKCR 89.9FM), same time slot (Thursday night/Friday morning 1am-5am) and lots of of classic in-studio moments from the program revisited (e.g. pre-Illmatic Nas, ODB, Wu-Tang, Big L, Organized Konfusion, Kurious, Masta Ace, Boot Camp and more) made it a pretty special trip down memory lane. The focus was largely on 1993 – the year both Stretch and Bob consider the apex of hip-hop that decade, and also the theme of tonight’s New Museum discussion hosted by ego trip’s Sacha Jenkins . For those who couldn’t stay up to catch it, Nasty Vaz of radiolily.com’s “Down By Law” show has come through like a trooper with audio of the full four hours. Listen and download below.
