Although it might sound like it, Johnny Dankworth is not an erb crumblin', rappin'-slash-singin' artist out to give Frank Ocean a run for his money. The man was actually a respected jazz musician and film composer with a long, significant career — he created the theme to the British TV series The Avengers and was down with Duke Ellington and Dizzy Gillespie (who btw didn't play the sax, but JD did). But who knows what the O.G. Johnny Blaze's life might have been like had he been born decades later. His official title of Sir John Phillip William Dankworth seems prime for '70s P-Funk spaceship shenanigans and any dude who made a record sampled by DJ Premier may have very well turned into an MC with smokin' rhymes devoted to the sticky icky had he not entered the world in 1927. Give it up to John D. Smoke-a-Fella, y'all.
