1. Havoc & Prodigy on the New York Knicks’ Bench’s Nickname: “Mob Deep.”

Buoyed by the play of Baron Davis, J.R. Smith, and Steve Novak, the New York Knicks’ bench has performed so well in recent weeks that the depth its added to the team’s roster has inspired a new nickname: “Mob Deep.” The infamous nickname was born when reserve guard Iman Shumpert (no relation to Tragedy Khadafi associate, Imam Thug) tweeted out to his followers earlier this month that the Knicks’ second unit needed a catchy handle comparable to the Chicago Bulls’ “benchmob.” A fan responded with “Mobb Deep.” Shumpert dropped a ‘b’ and the rest is history – as even MSG Network broadcasters have taken to it. When reached for comment by ESPNnewyork.com, Prodigy of Mobb Deep said: “I’ve heard them play our music before at different games, maybe during the highlights on the news and certain things like that. But this is the first time where the team actually called something ‘Mobb Deep.’ That’s the Knicks. That’s what’s up.” Meanwhile, Havoc likened this year’s team to the defensive-minded clubs of the ’90s led by Patrick Ewing. Knicks fans can only hope this is a prelude to a less hectic, more consistent ending of the regular season. [via espn.com ]
