Lupe Fiasco Booted From Stage at Pre-Inauguration Concert (VIDEO).
On the eve of President Barack Obama‘s 2nd term inauguration, Lupe Fiasco reportedly stirred controversy at the StartUp RockOn concert event last night in Washington D.C. when he was removed from the stage by security while performing his song “Words I Never Said.” The song features lyrics that critique the Obama administration’s use of drones attacks in the Middle East (“Gaza strip was getting bombed, Obama didn’t say shit/That’s why I ain’t vote for him, next one either”). Fiasco’s performance of this single song at the pre-inauguration celebration reportedly lasted in excess of 30 minutes.
In a statement in response to the incident, Hypervocal – co-founder of StartUp RockOn – cited Fiasco’s musically self-indulgent performance as the reason for his removal – not the content of his material.
Hypervocal: “This was not about his opinions. Instead, after a bizarrely repetitive, jarring performance that left the crowd vocally dissatisfied, organizers decided to move on to the next act.”
