1. Listen to the Full 5-Hour Recording From the
    Larry Levan Street Party (AUDIO).

If you were one of the several thousand folks in New York City this past weekend who were fortunate enough to attend the block party in front of the old Paradise Garage building in tribute to the late, great Larry Levan (and the effort to get the stretch of King Street between Varick and Hudson renamed in his honor ), you know how special an event it was. If you missed it you weren’t alone (some 3,000 people were turned away and the plug pulled on the festivities an hour early by police in order to avoid overcrowding), but you are in luck. RBMA Radio has uploaded audio of the full 5-hour celebration featuring DJs Francois K , David DePino and Joey Llanos running through Garage-era disco and house classics to a thoroughly enthralled Mother’s Day crowd. Also includes special live performances by the great Jocelyn Brown (doing “Somebody Else’s Guy,” Inner Life’s “Caught Up” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and more) and vocalist Anthony Molloy (doing Serious Intention’s dubbed out “You Don’t Know” – what!). I’m not sure if there’s any way to fully capture the spirit of that day solely via audio document the energy was such. But I’m looking forward to finding out. Listen below…
