After four years without releasing any new music, J-Zone returns with a funky-as-hell funky-ass new single. And, true to Zone’s curmudgeonly fun-loving ways, he’s doing it his way: 45 rpm 7″ vinyl, colored vinyl, 500 COPIES ONLY.
As J-Zone writes:
I know, I retired from rap years ago. I didn’t see this coming either. Anyway, here’s my out-of-nowhere attempt to have some fun with music again and put a lil’ something out there for those who enjoy(ed) the J-Zone sound. “The Drug Song (Remix)” is an uptempo instrumental that fits the aesthetic of the funk 45, a phenomenon that defined my childhood and inspired this release format. The B-Side? Well, before you call me a hypocrite for rapping on a song, it should be known it was done before my exodus from the vocal booth and never released. A new beat, a new verse from the incomparable Breeze Brewin (of The Juggaknots) and commentary from the legendary Prince Paul (De La Soul, Stetsasonic, Negroes On Ice, Handsome Boy Modeling School) and my man Oxygen make this song hilarious and timeless stance on dating in America: Pretty women just ain’t worth the hassle!
