Honestly, in a post- Brown Sugar * world we've probably heard enough "I Heart Hip-Hop"-type songs to last us till a meteor crashes to earth and puts us all out of our misery. We're good with those for a while - thanks, rap. However, if you're gonna make one, consider doing it as Damu the Fudgemunk does on his latest fine effort. On "Faster Rhyme For Self," the D.C. producer/emcee is less about sentimentally lauding and loving rap than just fast-rapping really proficiently on some vintage Organized Konfusion/Percee P/Ultramagnetic hypnotical gaseous type ish - far more gratifying for everyone involved. Faster Rhyme For Self - Damu The Fudgemunk by Redefinition Records
* A film, we should note, that if we recall correctly features a line of dialogue that references an off-screen character who is a rap journalist for XXL magazine named "Gabe." This cannot be a coincidence.
