An ego trip office favorite, Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund's stunning 2002 Brazilian coming-of-age drama City of God was notable for plucking many of it's then-unknown cast direct from Rio de Janeiro's infamous favelas and into the worldwide spotlight. Some of them graduated on to the excellent spin-off TV series Cidade de Homen / "City of Men" , while singer/actor Seu Jorge and actress Alice Braga (daughter of actress Sonia Braga) continued their celebrity ascent. But then there are other talents from the film who — from what we can gather from this trailer — encountered different fates. And even as Seu Jorge reveals on camera, not much has changed for the black citizens in Brazil despite the country's rising economic fortune of recent years. This trailer evidently was posted back in April, but we just learned of it. And perhaps just in time; a quick googlin' reveals the documentary is slated for release sometime towards the end of this year. We. Can't. Wait.
