1. SEE, HEAR: A Tribe Called Quest on Philly TV Show, ‘Krush Rap’ (1990).

This is a brief but thoroughly enjoyable on-the-street segment from the syndicated television program Krush Rap , which was filmed in Illadelph and broadcast on late Saturday nights way back when. Here we see A Tribe Called Quest in promo mode for People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm , and appropriately enough, the group find themselves amongst the good peoples of the City of Brotherly Love, with Tip chillin’ on a mailbox, Jarobi in front of him, Phife to the side and Ali in the back. Surrounding ATCQ are a bunch of young folks, visibly jazzed to be standing near these hip-hop heroes. As a nice bonus, the music video for Antoinette’s “She Operates Around The Clock,” comes up next in its entirety, reminding you how street espionage happened pre-smart phone era.
